This is a great rangefinder and I think it’s the best in the market today! It’s a combination laser rangefinder and GPS so it’s like a typical rangefinder + GPS golf watch all in one.
The best feature of this rangefinder is that it also has a small touchscreen in the front where you can see the overall layout of the hole you are playing. It has markers to break up the hole (distances to a hazard or middle bunker for example) as well as a flyover mode. When you are on the green you can also see the green undulation, etc.
It’s more expensive than most rangefinders as it’s in the $700 range but if you want the best, I guess you need to pay for the best!
Voice Caddie is a Korean company and the SL2 replaces the SL1. The SL1 didn’t really seem like it was sold much outside of Korea and the SL2 has been around in Korea for the past year or so but has only recently been released in the USA. With the SL1 there were some special editions like the Swarovski edition (popular with the women) as well as a gold edition (also popular with women). The SL2 has a special star wars edition in Korea which is popular with men. The special edition versions are more expensive (~$1k?) and come with special cases, etc. but the functionality is the same.
I’m still learning how to use this but for a few negative points, the battery life is good enough to last 1 round but I tried playing 2 rounds with it and the battery was really low by the end of the second round the next day. I completed the round but I would charge after every round just to be safe. Perhaps it’s because I can’t figure out if there is an off button somewhere. There doesn’t seem to be…so my guess is that it just shuts off automatically after some time of non use, etc.
I use a Garmin Approach S62 watch and I’m slowly thinking of not using the watch and using this instead. For the last few rounds I have been using both the watch and the rangefinder.
