The Garmin Approach R10 launch monitor is the best launch monitor for the money! Of course there are other launch monitors that are better…for example, the trackman is better, the GC Quad is better, etc. But those launch monitors are $5k or $20k, etc. The Garmin R10 is only $599!
For $599 you get a small device that works well and includes much of the information that is available on these more expensive devices. Information and data such as swing path, face to path, spin rate, angle of attack, etc. Of course it has basic data such as swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, etc. The basic information is directly measured and the rest are calculated indirectly.
Many people are using the R10 in a home setup with a projector because the R10 also has a mode where you can play golf courses in the simulator. It’s a bit cartoon and video game like so not as realistic as other screen golf but it’s fun. There is a separate subscription that is necessary though for these additional features.
But no product is perfect and the R10 is no exception. So far I have noticed one major issue which is that it doesn’t work very well if there are fans around. It’s summer so the golf range that I go to has many fans everywhere…ceiling, behind you, beside you, etc. These fans wreak havoc and the R10 gives a message that it is not able to measure data. You also need to set it up correct at the right distance on a flat surface, etc. It’s a bit finicky and if not set up properly it will either give poor data or it will be inaccurate (many people online report that the distances are 10-20 yards short).
The only other issue is that it’s very difficult to find in stock anywhere. You can get on a waiting list at some websites and when stock comes in they will send it to you. You can of course go on ebay but at the time of this post, they go for around $800 or so on ebay. Hopefully with time it will get better availability.
