8/16/2025 – Sung Moon An

Tee Time: 7:42am

Players: Jin, Jeff, Jy

This was another fun round at Sung Moon An. Our caddie was great. She was sociable, friendly and had good skills. The course was in excellent condition. I also played well overall so that was nice. Driver stayed in-bounds and most of my shots were decent. I hit a few balls fat but oh well, can’t have everything.

I played a single ball all the way up until hole 16. On hole 17, I hit a bad hook on my drive and lost the ball. There was some space and I could have retrieved it but it was already an old used ball and I had used to for around 3 or 4 holes or so the previous round + 16 holes this round so it was time to get rid of it anyway.

After the round we had lunch at Fioretto, the Italian restaurant on site. It’s a good restaurant.

Sung Moon An is one of the top public golf courses in Korea. They are also nice is that they allow 3 person teams (without having to pay for a 4th). We were originally a 3 person group since it is a public holiday weekend in Korea and we decided to play last minute but we had space for a 4th and a friend decided to join us last minute.

This is somewhat relevant because the lunch reservation at Fioretto was originally for 3 people. But I have dined there many times and they only have tables for 2 or 4 anyway so I didn’t think it’d be an issue. They gave me a nice 4 person table by the window but since the reservation was for 3, there were only 3 place settings.

I sat and told the waitress that we actually had a 4th join us so we have 4 people so asked for another setting and she said that they can’t do that(?). Weird since there’s a spot and a chair for a 4th, etc. but she said that this window seat is only for 3 people so we need to move to another table. I told her that’s fine and I’m happy to move anywhere…but I guess they were all reserved or something (many were empty though so not sure what was going on) and they reluctantly said that they’d add a 4th place setting.

I’m not sure what was going on because they have a break at 2:30pm so all tables are cleared out and we were there at around 12:30 and by the time we left at 2pm some of those 4 person tables stayed empty.

Anyway, I’ll just chalk it up to another weird Korea “please understand our unique situation” experience.

Always fun to play here but it’s expensive. Valet parking is included but it’s kind of a half valet parking…they will valet and park your car but after your round the valets will give you your key to load your bag and you just drive yourself after your round. Valets also don’t typically drive stick (manual transmission) in Korea so if your car is not an automatic transmission, you will likely need to just park yourself.
