Wow, what a cool experience! I met up with my friend Tom who flew over to Atlanta from Kansas City to play a round with me. He got us a tee time from his college friend, Wes, who is a member of Atlanta Country Club.
We met at around noon to grab a quick lunch in the Men’s Grill before heading over to the driving range to warm up and then head out for our round.
Tom and Wes are both ex-professional football players who played in the NFL so they are pretty big guys. Wes was really blasting his driver well hitting some of his drives 300 yards! It was really awesome to see. He said that he was hitting much better than usual and he was at -2 on the front 9! He ended up at +4 on the back 9 so ended at +2 which was really impressive.
Tom is more of a normal player but he’s cool and played well also. I didn’t play too well but had a lot of fun.
Lawson and JT are both college football players and Lawson is Wes’ son. It was really fun playing with these 2 guys as well. Lawson was struggling a little bit off the tee but he was cool to play with and JT was blasting his driver like he was on a long drive competition. His swing speed was truly impressive but he really was swinging for the fences! He had a bit of a slice though so he lost a lot of distance but I can definitely see him blasting some 400 yard drives in his future!
The men’s grill was really nice. I had a french dip and it was great. The locker room was really nice also. Everyone working was very friendly.
The course was also super nice and really seemed empty so we were able to play at our pace. The marshall came by a few times but he came by mostly to just say hello and chat rather than talk about pace of play, etc.
This is a really top notch private country club and really rated amongst the top in the city along with Atlanta Athletic Club, Peachtree, etc.
After the round, I stopped by Heirloom BBQ for the good Southern / Korean bbq brisket, ribs, pork, etc.!
