Tee Time: 7:17
Players: Steven, Justin, Hazle
Our 4th playing partner was unable to join us so Steven called Hazle, his golf coach and golf pro. She came out and gave us a quick field lesson where she shared some tips and played a round with us.
I met her before and she is very nice and a lot of fun so this was a fun round.
What a cold round! It was freezing in the morning. We needed hand warmers, etc. It was pretty much like winter golf. Way too cold for my liking.
I never play well though when I have a field lessons because it’s always tough to make drastic swing changes while you are out on the course playing a round.
Her main point for me was that my upper body turns too quickly which causes me to slice sometimes. She suggested that I let my hands go first and then my body follow.
She also showed me a drill where I hold my golf club in the middle of the shaft and on the downswing I use the back half of the shaft to hit my left side. This encourages me to really stretch out on my follow through. I have a tendancy to pull rather than push on the follow through.
These changes caused a lot of mis-hits and lost balls. It was pretty bad. On the last hole, I tried a short swing with my driver just to get the ball in play while also ensuring an in-to-out swing path and it worked! I didn’t lose much distance either so I thought that was nice and made a mental note to try it some more tomorrow…
In the end, my round was pretty bad but had fun. After the round, we had a great Japanese dinner at Moegi at Vista Walker Hill!
