11/3/2025 – New Springville (Olympus, Rocky)

Tee Time: 12:01

Players: John, Haesu, Jy

This was my first time playing New Springville but it’s a nice course and not too far away from Seoul. It is located in Incheon near other courses such as The Crosby, etc.

It’s a large course with 6 different 18 hole courses including the 4 member courses – Rocky, Olympus, Alps, Mont Blanc and the 2 public courses – White Horn, Victoria Park.

We played Olympus and Rocky and both courses were nice with wide fairways, good visibility, some water hazards, etc. There were a few uphill holes though and the greens were pretty tough.

I played ok. I tried to continue with my short control swing with driver that worked for me on hole 18 yesterday and was having mixed results. There was one hole where I topped it and then I ended up mis-hitting it again to the right so I abandoned it. I guess I’ll need to practice it a bit more this week at the range.

Ideally I have my normal swing which focuses on weight shifting to my left leg on impact which is good with distance and not too bad with accuracy so it’s my normal swing. When I went back to this swing afterwards it was pretty good but sometimes I hook the ball (I rarely slice with this swing).

But I would like to have an alternate “safe” swing when I kind of just put the ball in play with driver and can use it when there is a tight fairway or a fairway where I don’t want to hit too far (water hazard, etc. – yes, I know I can just hit hybrid, etc.).

In any case, I abandoned the control shot driver swing and went back to my old swing and that was better.

John was playing very well and was much better than our last round a couple of weeks ago. It was his last round in Korea this trip.

The weather was cold in the morning but warmed up around the time we started out round so it was nice.

We had dinner at a local Korean restaurant about 25 minutes along the way back to Seoul near The Crosby. It turned out that most of the staff was Thai so I was able to practice my Thai which was a lot of fun for me!
