Our friends recently became members of PVGC after a long 5 year wait! We were so happy for them and the timing was perfect since they just became members on 7/1 and we flew into LA on 7/3! We had the privilege of being their first guests!
PVGC is open to members only in the morning but open to guests in the afternoons on Tuesday and Thursdays.
There is a lot of construction going on as they are building a men’s grill and a few other amenities. We parked in the lower parking lot. There is a cart area to pick up a golf cart and there is also access to the pro shop. There are some signs but navigating the clubhouse can be a little difficult if you are not a member and don’t know your way around.
We went to the practice range which is a golf cart ride away. It’s a nice range with TaylorMade TP5 practice balls. I always like a range with decent practice balls…those public ranges with the hard as rocks yellow balls are just terrible.
Like most private country clubs, they don’t really have tee times so it’s mostly just first come first served. There generally isn’t a long wait so by the time you hit a few balls at the range, they’ll call your name so you’re next up. We went to tee off and were joined by a nice guy which is a member. He is actually a board member and long time member so he knew everything and everyone so it made for some good conversation. He played the front 9 or so and then had to leave. Trent had some meetings and showed up at around hole 12 or so and that was nice too.
PVGC is a great golf course with some nice views of the ocean. Having just played Virginia a few days prior, I naturally found myself comparing the two. Both courses are very nice and top notch and maintained flawlessly. Virginia seemed less crowded though. PVGC isn’t crowded by any means but you do see other groups in front and behind and sometimes you will wait a little bit at a tee box, etc. We had a slightly slow group in front of us so it could have just been today. Overall a wonderful experience!
After the round we were going to get dinner in the clubhouse but the restaurant was closed. We had some drinks though and the bar and met some members in the bar and they were all really nice and cool and welcoming.
