Tee Time: 11:28

I thought Korean golf courses were all pretty much the same in that they are all pretty nice and clean with good service. That was until I went to Yongin CC. There are so many golf courses in Yongin but this is the only one that is simply called Yongin CC with nothing else in the name. It’s probably the first country club in Yongin because the facilities were really old…like something out of the 1970s, etc.
I had never played here and neither had my playing partners but we chose this over a few other places because the tee time was the most convenient.
This was by far the worst golf experience that I have ever had in Korea. It was so bad that if the country club were to apologize and ask me to come back for a round on them, I would say no. If a friend ever invites me to play a round here, I’ll just politely decline. I’d rather sit and home and no play golf than play a round here. Yes, it’s that bad. My Korean sucks but I even posted a negative review on naver saying how bad this place is.
So why was it so bad? Where to start….here goes.
- We had an 11:28am tee time. We went out to meet the caddie at around 11:20 and he drove us over towards hole 10. I asked why we were going to start at the back 9 when I had booked the front 9 first and he said that there are too many people waiting so this will be faster. Fine with me. But the problem was that we were behind like 4 other carts so with 7 minute tee times….and 20 minutes later the caddie said that he got word that we need to move over to the front 9 so we moved…and waited in line over there behind like 5 carts. 30 minutes later, we were finally getting ready to hit off hole 1. This was roughly an hour after our scheduled tee time.
- Caddie was a guy and it was his first week on the job. He knew nothing. He didn’t know the holes, topography, distances, etc. He was useless.
- Play was super slow. We were always waiting for the group in front of us to hit and they were waiting for the group in front of them. It was constantly just hitting a ball…waiting to hit again…hitting again…then waiting…etc. Each hole took forever. There is a par 6 which isn’t interesting except that it’s the only par 6 I’ve ever played. Because of the wait you can see like 4 groups of people in front of you as you wait to hit. Maybe someone will hit a condor here someday.
- The course was unkempt. Divots everywhere not replaced, random stuff broken, etc.
- It was so bad that I actually thought about leaving but I was with friends/clients.
- Towards the end when we got to around hole 13, the tablet that was used to keep score ran low on battery. There was only about 5% battery left so the caddie at that point turned it off only to turn it on after each hole to record the score and that’s it.
- Then we got a flat tire. Cart barely made it to the last 2 holes and struggled in the parking lot driving on that flat tire.
- For our after golf snack we went to the restaurant. We tired to order fried chicken but was told that the oil needs to be heated up and that takes an hour so please order something else. Ok how about pizza…sorry we turned off the stone over already. Ok I’ll take a coke…sorry we actually only have sprite. WTF? We left. The waitress did feel back and she knew it was ridiculous.
- The actual course is owned by 2 different entities so I got 2 separate bills. This was just weird because it was 900k krw for the foursome (it’s cheap!) but I got 2 receipts from 2 different businesses and each receipt was for 475k.
Of course the total round took about 7 hours to play…which is crazy.
So no…never again. Don’t play here. If someone invites you to play here, run away and just say no.
The one thing it had going for it is that it was cheap. But buyer beware…you get what you pay for. I think it was roughly 150k/person which is around 100k cheaper than most places.
