Castlex is only 20 minutes from my house. It’s crazy how close this golf course is to my house. It was by far the closest golf course for me.
Unfortunately that’s pretty much the only good news about this place. The golf course is mostly garbage. Because it’s so close to Seoul they are able to get away with charging pretty high rates (280k on weekends). They also pretty much have tee times from 5am until the evening so the golf course is pretty beat up.
The main dropoff area is small and tight but they have valet parking for 7,000 krw so that’s nice. Otherwise it’s a pain to park here since parking spots are tight, etc.
The restaurant isn’t vey good but at least it’s not crazy expensive.
The locker room is dated and they have a long row of lockers along the path where you walk so it’s hard to get around in the locker room since you’re always blocked by people.
The course itself is narrow and you need to go up and down a lot of hills to go to your holes. There are many holes next to each other so you hear a lot of “ball!” and need to duck.
This is one of my least favorite courses in Korea (the worst by far though is Yongin CC, which is the only golf course I refuse to go to in Korea). If my friends insist on playing at Castlex due to vicinity, I’ll play here but won’t be happy about it.
I played ok in terms of score but the caddie was pretty liberal about handing out mulligans, etc. so I didn’t play as well as the score indicates. 90 isn’t a bad score for me (bogey golf) but my real score was definitely >100.
After our round, we can have a meal nearby and I can be home in 20 minutes so that’s the best part though and it’s tough to beat that even if the course isn’t so good.
We had a nice lunch at a local eel restaurant afterwards so that was nice too.
