To play golf in Korea, you should know the lingo…
Some common phrases include:
“nice on!” – when your ball lands on the green
“nice <eagle><birdie><par>”
“nice shot” – usually a nice drive onto the fairway
“<birdie><par> chance” – usually said when you are getting ready to putt a <birdie> or <par>
“oh jal gong (오잘공)” – your best shot of the day! i assume it stands for 오늘 잘친 공.
“양파” – double par (also a homonym for onion)
“field” – the golf course
Some lesser known golf lingo:
“bunker jun (벙커전)” – just before the bunker
“bunker twigim (벙커튀김)” – bounced off the bunker and into play
“legend (레전드)” – when a guy’s driver hit doesn’t reach the ladies (usually red) tee. i think it stands for “레이디 티 전”…
“dimitry (드미트리)” – when you hit a great drive but still triple bogey the hole. 드라이버한테 미안한 트리플.
