First of all, Ansung Benest is pretty far. It’s down in Ansung but it’s also on the southeastern part of Ansung so it’s about 100km or so from Seoul. Most of the golf courses that I go to are in the 50-70km range. So the time it took to get to Ansung was about an hour and a half whereas most of the time it’s about an hour. So add 50% travel time from Seoul to get to Ansung in the first place. My last comment about distance is that even after you get off the freeway it’s a good 20+ minutes to get to the course.
Ansung Benest is run by Samsung and is a private country club. After the members book their tee times, remaining tee times are available to the public. I recently received membership to Ansung from my workplace so that’s a great perk!
There are 4 nine hole courses at Ansung called North, South, East, and West. North and West are typically paired together and South and East are also paired together to form 18 holes. North/West is more popular so more difficult to get tee times. I played South/East.
The course was well maintained as expected but the course was pretty hard. Most holes have fairly narrow fairways that are rather unforgiving with the standard “hazard if you hit out left and OB if you hit out right” so you need to get your ball onto the fairway or the slight rough around the fairway.
The clubhouse is modern and nice. Due to covid, there is a kiosk for check-in and check-out that is very convenient. Food is good as expected.
As a member, I plan to play Ansung quite often despite the far location. I have another tee time next week at South/East and another one at the end of the month for North/West so I’m looking forward to checking out the North/West courses.
