Chester Washington was once called Western Ave. Golf Course and was one of the first golf courses to allow African American golfer. Chester Washington was an African American journalist who owned some newspapers and publications.
The road leading up to the golf course is Charlie Sifford Dr. which is named after the first African American golfer on the PGA tour.
So the golf course has a lot of great history. For a muni course, it’s well kept and in good shape overall. The fairways are nice and while most of the holes are fairly easy, it’s a fun course with some hills and undulation here and there.
There is a driving range to the right if you want to get some practice balls in before your round.
Most of the golfers seem to be Korean or African American. We had 3 in our reservation so they added a 4th player who was another Korean guy. He was cool.
I only lost 1 ball and it was my tee shot off hole 1 that pushed right over to the driving range area so the ball was unrecoverable.
For a muni, it’s nice and I would play the course regularly if I was a local.
