Tee Time: 11:55am
Players: Youngsin, Hae Kyung, Choon
I had a 11:55am tee time so I headed over to the course at 11am. This is a great course and one of my favorites in Korea. In fact, this was my second time playing this course in 2 weeks! It’s great because unlike most Korean courses, this course is pretty wide and expansive. You play around 2 or so holes in one area and then take the cart across a small bridge to another section and play most of your holes before heading back over the small bridge to finish out your front 9 for your short break after the front 9.
Then for your back 9 you play a few more holes before heading across that small bridge again to play the rest of your holes and then head back again to finish out. It’s a nice short break heading over that small bridge.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t so good today. It wasn’t rainy but it was really really windy. On some holes it felt like I was trying to play golf in the middle of a typhoon or something like that.
So balls hit high up in the air were getting blown all over the place. I’m not good enough to hit stingers so it was just a tough day.
Sky 72 is under a dispute with their landlord (Incheon airport). Apparently from what I have read, the lease ran out on 12/31/2020. Sky 72 wants to renew until the similar terms but the airport wants to increase rent considerably since the airport has been losing a lot of money and Sky 72 has been making a lot of money because of covid. As a result, Incheon airport shut off electricity and power to the golf course. The golf course is still operating with generators and bottled water, etc. To water the grass, they are apparently using water from the lakes.
Sky 72 is one of my favorite courses in Korea because there is variety (with 72 holes, there are 4 x 18 hole golf courses!) and because it’s in Incheon it’s not too far of a drive (usually about an hour). As one of my favorite golf courses in Korea, I’ll definitely be back!
