Tee Time: 6:35am
Players: MJ, MJ’s husband, JY
Course: Old Course
This outing was a lot of fun! This course review will be sort of like a blog entry.
I met MJ in my apartment building in our golf practice room. I am down there practicing golf pretty often (around 5 days a week) and I met her because she’s also down there practicing as often as I am (maybe more). We had a few random conversations in there and she told me that her favorite course is La Vie est Belle.
I checked out the website for the course and it looked great but bookings are extremely difficult. It’s a public course and prices are slightly lower than other places so this place is very popular.
She is there on the website on Tuesday morning at 9am when the bookings open and she is usually lucky to get some tee-times over there so she plays once a week at the course.
In one of our conversations she invited my wife and I play with her and her husband so I took her up on the offer.
La Vie est Belle has 2 courses – old course and dunes course. We played old course. The old course is modeled after the famous old course at St. Andrews in Scotland!
The course is a ton of fun with a good mix of difficulty, hazards, OB, but wide fairways to be somewhat forgiving. I scored ok (~100) but it turns out that MJ is an awesome golfer…she got 4 birdies through the day. First half she was +2 (4 bogeys, 2 birdies) and was similar on the second half despite a few three putts!
The clubhouse architecture is build in traditional Korean hanok style so that’s interesting as well.
Overall, it’s a great course that is well maintained and I would love to play here on a regular basis as well.
I have tried to book as well on Tuesday mornings but have had no such luck. However, I’m beginning to think that it’s because my logic and name is in English due to Korean quirks and sometimes websites don’t work well because my name is too long, etc. Anyway, I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I can try.
Next time I would love to try Dunes Course as well.
