8/19/2023 – Gapyeong Benest (Maple + Pine)

Tee Time: 7:21

Players: Youngjune, Kate, Maria

Gapyeong Benest is one of the Samsung owned golf courses in Korea within the same “Benest” family of Ansung Benest (where I currently have membership), Dongrae Benest, etc. Anyang, Glen Ross, and Lakeside are also Samsung owned but do not carry the “Benest” name.

The course is located roughly 65km northeast of Seoul. Driving time took approximately 55 minutes from Jamsil which was about 5-10 minutes longer than I had expected. There is some local driving for the last 10km or so which added to the drive time. However, this is still better than the 1 hour and 20 minutes that it routinely takes for me to get to Ansung Benest.

The course is laid out well. The grass is Korean grass. The facilities are nice and similar in caliber with Ansung Benest. In fact, much of the course layout, clubhouse, carts, and other facilities seemed about the same as Ansung Benest. If anything, I think Ansung Benest might be a better course overall with some more fun holes, etc.

The round was nice and I played well so I was happy about that. I’m still fiddling around with my driver swing and although I thought I had it figured out this past week in practice, it didn’t come to me out on the course. Such is golf life I suppose.

Perhaps next year I will try to angle to get my work membership shifted from Ansung to Gapyeong simply for the closer location.
