Sunrise is a nice golf course located about an hour or so south of Taipei. It is a private membership club. I played a round here with my friend Brian who works in the semiconductor industry in Taiwan. He lives about an hour south of the airport and the company that he works for has corporate membership at Sunrise so he was able to book a tee time via his company’s membership.
The course is great. Fairways are nice and wide. The greens are well maintained. There are water hazards and bunkers, etc.
The clubhouse is very large. Locker room is nice. There is also a nice sauna.
The only issue was weather. It was cold, wet, rainy, windy…overall miserable golf conditions. In many ways I didn’t really want to play but figured we’ll head out there and hope for the best.
It didn’t get better though. It got worse. After a few holes, I asked what the policy is in Taiwan if you quit playing but my friend said that unfortunately in Taiwan, they don’t do rainchecks and they don’t do prorated golf (what they do in Korea – you simply pay for the # of holes you played). He said that if you tee off then you pay for all 18 holes. If you don’t tee off, then you don’t pay.
Since we tee’d off we just powered through it.
There were some small snack stands here and there and at one of them we got a hard boiled egg marinated in tea which was really nice and warm for a cold and wet day.
After golf, I went back to the hotel and had one of the best hot showers of my life.
I recommend this course as long as the weather is nice.
Cost was around 2,500 NTD/TWD (~$80 USD) but we got the corporate membership discount. I believe the regular guest price is roughly 2-3X what we paid.
