12/14/2024 – Club72 (Haneul Course)

Tee Time: 12:23pm

Players: Jono, Jy, Bong

This was my last round of the season! I usually stop at the 2nd weekend in December (which was last week) but since Dec 1 was a Sunday, the 2nd weekend was a little early this year. Also, Jono is a friend from Australia who is visiting Korea so he wanted to try to play a round while he’s here so I made an exception to get this round in.

It was not so easy to find other players though since it’s cold but we were able to get 2 others.

Club72 is pretty strict about enforcing foursomes only. There are certain tee times where they allow 3 person groups but it’s explicitly stated when you make a reservation and this was not one of those times.

Club72 as a name suggests is a 72 hole course with Bada/Classic, Lake, Ocean, and Haneul courses. Of these 4 courses, Haneul is widely regarded as the best so reservations are tough. I was really only able to get a reservation because it’s the off season for golf. I booked the last tee time as well hoping that the weather would not be as cold.

It’s probably a temporary special but the clubhouse has a free buffet that you can use prior to your round. It’s a decent spread for a free buffet much like a lounge at the airport so stuff like bread/jam, a meat dish, some veggie dishes, rice cakes, cup ramen, etc. It wasn’t bad.

Haneul also has a special promotion where you get a voucher to use the Club72 practice range (the largest range in the world) for free 1 time until April 2025.

The course itself was very nice. Wide fairways. Nice greens. Definitely one of the top public courses in Korea. I can see why they hold so many professional level tournaments here. The only downside was that most of the holes had you tee off on mats because it’s winter.

I played ok. I was trying out a new iron swing that was working well at the range but was terrible…I was hitting everything fat fat fat…so I ended up going back to my old swing after hole 2 and it was ok. Driver was good overall with the ball staying in bounds. There was one hole towards the end where I hooked it (not sure what happened there). Anyway, I probably didn’t extend my arms enough on the follow through.

Anyway, it was a fun finale to the great season. I ran some quick numbers and it looks like I played 72 rounds of golf this year! This included rounds in Taiwan, Australia, USA, and of course most of the rounds were in Korea.
