Tee Time: 6:46am
Players: Scott, Minsung, Insup
This was the first time I showed up late for a round of golf. I generally like to arrive really early for golf because I don’t like to rush and don’t like the feeling of running late while I’m driving, etc. So if I have a tee time at 8am for example, we generally will meet for breakfast at around 7:10am so I will plan to get there by around 6:50am and if the course is about 1 hour away, rather than leave at 5:50am I’ll leave at around 5:35 or 5:40am in case I hit some traffic, etc. I’ll also vigorously look at online maps in the morning to estimate travel time, etc.
So suffice to say, I’m pretty much never late for anything…golf, dinners, coffee, meetings, etc.
But I was late today.
It was weird. I had some type of brain fart or something.
Our tee time was 6:46am and I confirmed this 2 days ago. I even set my alarm for 4:15am so that I can leave at 4:45am to get to the course by around 5:50am and meet at the cart by 6:20am (our agreed upon time). We decided to skip breakfast.
But for some reason, I got into my head that our tee time was 7:40 so I should get up at 5 and leave by around 5:45. I saw my alarm setting for 4:15 and changed it to 5:00. I got up in the middle of the night at 3am and then 4am but just went back to sleep and got up at 5am.
I left the house at around 5:45 and it was only when I got a call at 6:25am basically asking “where the f are you?” lol…I realized I f-d up.
I suppose alls well that ends well. I ended up getting there at 6:50 and was out on the course at around 7:05am which was right as my team was teeing off on hole 2. I offered to skip hole 2 but they said I should hit and I did…no practice swings, etc…and I hooked it a little left but it was in play.
So I only missed 1 hole.
It was foggy and wet. It didn’t rain though but it had rained a lot all night so the bunkers were full of puddles and out of play.
I played ok towards the middle but kind of lost something towards the end. I was trying to muscle it too much towards the end and was making poor contact. If my driver hits heel, I push and slice a lot and I was hitting heel too much. I was also hitting a little thin. I don’t know why I didn’t just tee it up a little higher but I kept trying to just fix it with my swing. In any case, I played ok but had a few really bad holes.
It was a fun round though but after a few good weeks, I was due for a less good round. This round was still better than last year though so I’m happy about that.
I’m trying to roughly limit myself to 2 rounds during the week and 1-2 on weekends and trying to get some practice in on other days. I need to hit the range before Friday (my next round) to work on a few things.
