Play Golf in Korea

5/15/2021 – Plaza CC

Tee Time: 12:26pm

Players: Sang Won, Hoi Jun, Jin

This is a pretty nice course! We played at the Tiger course. Tiger seems to be the easier course as the fairways are pretty nice and wide. Lion course seems a little harder and more narrow so less room for error.

The course was a lot of fun but there are a few blind holes where you can’t see the green from the tee box. The caddie gave us tips but there are some where you can’t hit driver off the tee because you’ll end up hitting OB unless you aim properly over a hill or something like that. Or we just hit off the blue tee sometimes instead of white, etc.

This is a private club although they do have excess inventory available for the public. From my perusal, there are some evening times on the Lion course available because there are lights over there but that’s about it.

I asked the caddie how much membership fees are here and it wasn’t too bad. She said that it runs around 60m krw (roughly $55k) which is much more affordable than most club which usually run around $200k-$500k. I would consider getting membership here at that price.

Distance from Seoul was pretty good at around 55km so it was roughly a 1 hour drive with minimal traffic.

We had a quick lunch at the country club but had dinner at a hanwoo beef place just outside of the club.

My score was pretty good. All of my scores were pretty legit so few mulligans and such. I had a great start with a par on hole 1 (legit par, not a “Korean” par on hole 1). My driver was ok and stayed in the fairway for the most part although I hit a few slices. My woods and hybrids and irons were pretty good today…nice and straight. my approach was mediocre and my putting was terrible so lots of 2 and 3 putts.

Our playing partner Jin who scored an 87 had his lifetime best! He said that he’s usually around a 100 or so player but he was really on a roll. He was par or bogey on every hole with no double bogeys or worse right up until hole 18! He ended up double bogey on 18 but basically scored in the single digits!
